Sirona has expressed its delight after a dental device it produced secured an industry award.
Its CEREC Connect product won a 2008 WOW! Award, meaning it has been designated one of last year’s most innovative devices within the dental industry by the Journal of Dental Technology (JDT).
CEREC Connect enables the placing of full-contour crowns in under one hour, making use of the lithium disilicate substance IPS e.max CAD.
Results from the device were described in its nomination as “great-looking, all-ceramic [and] conventionally cemented”.
The JDT judging panel praised the product’s capacity to save money and time as well as the quality of the images in its camera.
Norbert Ulmer, Sirona Dental Systems’ director of dental laboratory applications, said the company was “extremely pleased” with the accolade.
Dental equipment firm Sirona was established in 1997 and its workforce is approximately 2,300 strong.
In 1998 it was altered so that its sole remit was in manufacture.
Initially created in a private equity buyout of Siemens’ dental section, Sirona took over Schick Technologies in 2006 in a reverse merger procedure.
One of its prominent products is the inLab system, which Sirona says gave it a leading market position within CAD/CAM systems.
