Allergan renews partnership

9th January 2009

Allergan has announced the continuation of its alliance with ExonHit Therapeutics.

According to the latter company, it was stated that the existing partnership between the two firms, which is dedicated to drugs for neurodegenerative diseases and ophthalmology as well as pain treatment, is extended to December 2011.

Under its terms, Allergan will up its quarterly funding for research to ExonHit rather than making a single payment.

There are also changes made to the commercial conditions involved, such as giving Allergan greater sublicensing rights and giving ExonHit royalties on future sales.

Antibody discovery is part of the remit of the extended partnership, which works towards developing and commercialising drugs.

The collaboration has been renewed more than once already and Allergan’s new extension of it comes earlier than had been expected.

Allergan is a healthcare firm whose products include Botox and the Lap-band adjustable gastric band.

It also lists education and information provision as being among its goals in order that patients can understand their options properly and make informed decisions about their treatment.

Its Latisse product, for treating people who suffer from having too few eyelashes, has just been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
