Allergan reveals decrease in net sales

Allergan’s net sales decreased 3.2 per cent to $1,041 million (711 million) over the course of 2008, it has been revealed.

The organisation also announced in its fourth-quarter results its diluted earnings per share fell from $0.52 to $0.51 and its core medical devices lowered 9.6 per cent over the same period.

However, Allergan’s adjusted earnings per share rose 26.7 per cent from $0.60 to $0.76.

Commenting on the results, David Pyott, the company’s chairman of the board and chief executive officer, said the organisation “continued to demonstrate an ability to apply disciple and execution” in its core speciality businesses.

He added: “Our goal is to continue to focus on enhancing efficiencies and strengthening our position ? throughout 2009.”

In October last year, the firm revealed in its third-quarter results its adjusted diluted earnings per share were at $0.65, a 12.1 per cent increase from the same time in 2007.
