Galderma therapy receives approval

Galderma’s Vectical therapy has received approval as a treatment for mild to moderate plaque psoriasis in adults.

The ointment was endorsed following two two-month studies.

Involving over 800 people, the research revealed improvement was first noted at week two.

However, common side effects of the treatment included high amounts of calcium in urine and skin discomfort.

Last year, Galderma announced it had acquired CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, which made the latter a wholly-owned subsidiary of the former.

Speaking at the time, chief executive officer for Galderma Humberto Antunes said the company was “pleased” to complete the transaction, noting it will allow for dermatologists and patients to be better served.

He added CollaGenex’s oral rosacea therapy “will be an important complement” to the company’s topical products.

Galderma employs 2,800 people around the world and has ten major products distributed in more than 65 countries.

In 2007, the company recorded sales of 735 million euros (642 million pounds).
