Agilent announces agreement with Protein Discovery

Agilent has signed an agreement with Protein Discovery, for the global distribution of PPS Silent Surfactant.

Used to prepare biological samples for mass spectrometry analysis, the specialised reagent is made by the latter company.

It is used for solublising hydrophobic proteins for extraction and preparative digestion.

As a result of the deal, both organisations will share sales, marketing and support for the reagent.

Bill Molnar, Agilent vice-president and general manager of the company’s genomics and bioreagents division, said the product is a "powerful addition" to the organisation’s product offering.

"It can be used at any stage of the mass spec sample-preparation process without interfering with separation mechanisms, ESI or detection," he noted.

Chuck Witkowski, president and chief executive officer of Protein Discovery, added the agreement represented a "significant milestone" in the firm’s commercialisation of products for use in preparative proteomics.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, US, Agilent currently employs 19,000 people.
