Bayer Animal Health reveals gallbladder rupture study findings

Bayer Animal Health has revealed the results of a study into gallbladder rupture in dogs.

Published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the study revealed echoegenic peritoneal fluid and reaction – along with laminated or thickened gallbladder wall – were discovered in ultrasonographic findings of dogs who had gallbladder disease.

The tests of the animals were initiated to identify laboratory, clinical and ultrasonographic characteristics associated with the condition.

Of the 45 dogs examined, 47 per cent had mucocele and eleven had positive results of bacteriologic culture.

The researchers involved in the study noted: “Ultrasonographic findings of pericholecystic reaction, localised or generalised echogenic peritoneal fluid, or decreased radiographic peritoneal detail should raise the index of suspicion for gallbladder rupture.”

Last month, Bayer Animal Health revealed it had submitted Visanne for registration with all European states.

The product, used as a treatment of endometriosis, contains two mg of Dienogest and is administered once-daily.
