Amgen puts forward marketing application for Denosumab
Amgen has put forward a marketing application for the use of a drug that specifically targets Rank Ligan in the European Union and Switzerland.
The treatment, called Denosumab, is the first fully human monoclonal antibody that has reached the late stages of clinical trial.
It is currently being investigated for its capability to prevent all stages of osteoclast activity and examined on a range of bone loss conditions.
Researchers hope the drug will be able to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, as well as combat the problem of bone deficiency in those receiving hormone ablation therapy for breast or prostate cancer.
It is also being explored to see how effective in can be in fighting rheumatoid arthritis.
Osteoporosis has recently been identified by the World Health Organisation as a priority health issue. It is a growing global health problem due to the aging and increasing population.
Since 1980, Amgen has discovered, developed and manufactured human therapeutics, helping people across continents fight against kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and other diseases.
