Alstoe designs laryngoscope for small animals

Alstoe has designed an animal laryngoscope for use in small creatures, it has been reported.

VetSurgeon explained that vets often encounter problems when using conventional devices which are often intended for humans.

Now the company has created an alternative option in collaboration with Professor Paul Flecknell of Newcastle University, who the product is named after.

It was particularly designed with rabbits in mind and uses a specially-designed, streamline, slimmed down blade to maximise the view of the larynx.

The device significantly reduces the risk of damaging the creature’s gums or pharynx as it is inserted, according to Alstoe.

Based in the UK, the business produces animal healthcare products which are used by veterinary surgeons and pet owners.

VetSurgeon also reported this week that Hill’s Pet Nutrition has decided to make a library of symposia proceedings freely available to all vets in an attempt to support professional with training during the economic downturn.

Within the collection will be a wide range of material including on topics such as inflammatory bowel disease in the feline and nutrigenomics, the website concluded.
