Takeda files bacteria drug application

Takeda has filed a new drug application for a treatment aimed at combating one of the most commonly existing bacteria in the human stomach.

It is thought the microorganism, called Helicobacter Pylori, leads to peptic ulcers developing. Therefore, removing them can be a way to prevent the condition occurring.

The medication – Lampion – comes in a single pack containing lansoprazole, amoxicillin and metronidazole, which is hoped to increase efficacy for secondary suppression of the bacteria.

“[It] is expected to provide a meaningful contribution to eradication therapy for patients and healthcare professionals,” the company remarked.

Earlier this month, Takeda announced that Uloric (febuxostat) ? a once-daily oral medication to manage hyperuricemia in patients with gout ? is now available by prescription in some pharmacies.

It works by lowering and maintaining uric acid levels, which can lead to this problem occurring, by blocking an enzyme that causes excess amounts of it to develop.

A research-based pharmaceutical company, Takeda focuses on marketing medication for insomnia, diabetes, rheumatology and gastroenterology.

Its drugs are sold in approximately 90 countries worldwide.
