Sirona improves PerioScan ultrasonic scaler

Sirona has made improvements to the PerioScan ultrasonic scaler.

The product, which uses an all-in-one fuzzy logic system to detect and remove dental calculus, was first launched in 2007.

Changes to the device means it will be able to detect supragingival surfaces and materials with 90 per cent accuracy to eliminate false-positive indications and speed up the process.

The company pointed out that a recent survey showed 93 per cent of consumers were either satisfied or very satisfied with the device as it is, without any modifications.

“For Sirona this is no reason to rest on its laurels,” the firm remarked. “In May [we] will introduce a new software version designed to improve the detection rate and handling characteristics of the PerioScan.”

Included in the updated version of the software will also be a tutorial program to instruct users how to use the probing force correctly.

Earlier this month, the dental equipment manufacturer introduced its new Cerec Connect models which will be available to professionals in this field from May.
