Biogen says it transformed pipeline in 3 years

Biogen has transformed its pipeline over the past three years, it has asserted.

Dr Cecil Pickett, president of the company’s research and development (R&D) department, remarked the firm is pioneering some of the industry’s “most exciting” science.

Looking at the central nervous system repair, the firm is conducting its Lingo and neublastin programmes, while their studies on the Tweak pathway have potential applications for cancer, autoimmune disorders and cardiovascular disease.

The therapeutics business is also developing bi-specific antibody platform technology, which it claimed could generate further effective therapies for a number of different illnesses.

“With 20 programs in phase II and beyond, our pipeline rivals those of companies much larger than us and positions the company for strong growth,” Dr Pickett concluded.

Yesterday (March 26th), members of Biogen’s R&D department provided a detailed review of its late-stage clinical trials to it investors.

They were to cover the business’ core therapeutic areas of oncology, neurology, immunology and cardiopulmonary.

Earlier this month, Dr Pickett announced his retirement. He will officially step down once his successor has been appointed.
