Allergan has potential competitor on market
Allergan’s potential rival to its Botox products has received marketing authorisation in France.
The Agence Francaise de Securite Sanitaire des Produits de Sante has permitted Galderma and Ipsen’s Azzalure to be used for treating frown lines.
It is a muscle relaxant which has been developed for aesthetic use and has now been approved to improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines between the eyebrows in men and women aged 65 and under.
The decision to permit the use of the product in France is based on several clinical trials involving more than 2,600 patients, which proved its safety and efficacy.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported Allergan might be further under threat if another competing product ? Medicis’ Reloxin ? was approved by regulators.
The former’s chief executive officer David Pyott discussed the possibility of a takeover with the news agency.
He remarked it would take a “very compelling proposition” for the business to be sold, adding he never forgets that he is working for the company’s investors.
