Bayer endorses dietary supplements
Bayer asserts dietary supplements are vital to maintaining good health at any age.
This comment came from Dr Feliz Reiff, global head of strategic business units at the company’s consumer care department, after research found adults and adolescents in Europe do not get enough essential vitamins and minerals.
Organised by Bayer, the study discovered more than 60 per cent of the elderly do not consume enough vitamin D, E and folate, while young to middle-aged adults lack sufficient levels of vitamin B1, pantothenic acid and biotin.
Professor David Richardson from the University of Newcastle explained there are a number of reasons why people do not achieve the recommended daily amounts for certain micronutrients.
“Dietary supplements serve as buffers when daily requirements are not fully met by proper food consumption,” he commented.
Bayer, which has developed supplements for 75 years, concluded it was pleased to contribute its expertise to provide information regarding to this topic.
Also this week, the company entered a strategic agreement with Genzyme, allowing the former to concentrate its resources in oncology.
