Somerset Trust aims to help people with autism

The Somerset Partnership Trust is committed to providing the best possible outcomes for patients in the region with autism and other forms of the condition, it has been claimed.

Pat O’Connell is a social worker and manager of the organisation’s Asperger Syndrome Consultancy Service.

The representative explained how the group ? which is made up of two social workers, a community nurse, an occupational therapist and advocacy services – works with individuals aged 18 and over who suffer from the illness and have an IQ of more than 70.

Patients often contact the service if they feel depressed, anxious, or have concerns about their employment or housing situation, the manager of the body commented.

“Our aim is to provide the best possible outcome for anyone with the condition in Somerset by helping them to understand their circumstances and live a life that’s as enjoyable as possible,” O’Connell concluded.

Last week, the Department of Health released new guidance for NHS and local authority staff to improve the provisions and facilities available for patients with autism.
