NHS chief exec stresses importance of leadership

Leadership is an important factor in improving services for NHS patients, it has been claimed.

David Nicholson, chief executive of the NHS, made this comment after the Department of Health announced 40 leading figures would become part of the National Leadership Council.

The group has been created as a result of a government strategy to improve areas of the body and will focus on developing a number of key areas ? such as clinical, top and emerging leaders.

Dr Mark Goldman will champion clinical leadership, Elisabeth Buggins will look after board development and Dr Barbara Hakin will head top leaders.

Mr Nicholson commented: “I am looking forward to working with this fantastic group of people from such a diverse range of backgrounds to help build a strong culture of leadership in the NHS.”

He concluded efficient management that focuses on patient care will help to strengthen the public health body.

Earlier this week, The Social Partnership Forum was launched to support NHS staff and trade unions.

The online platform is intended to help the two operate together.
