Almirall opens London headquarters

Almirall’s new London headquarters will position the company well for the growing UK market, it has claimed.

The Spanish-based pharmaceutical company opened new offices at Stockley Park and around 50 members of staff will work there.

General manager of the company’s UK and Ireland division Carlos Gallardo explained the facility would prove to be important because the pharmaceutical market in Britain is ranked fifth worldwide.

“This is a tremendously exciting moment for Almirall as we continue to strengthen our direct presence in Europe,” he remarked.

Around 100 guests attended the opening ceremony, one of whom was business secretary Peter Mandelson.

He noted Almirall’s decision to expand in the UK was recognition of the country’s strengths, adding it was a pleasure to welcome the company to Britain.

Last week, the firm announced Steve Webber had been appointed as senior discovery director.

He began his career at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer in 1992 where he held a number of positions and it is hoped he will now enhance Almirall’s research and development division.
