Award to help local communities discussed

Local Strategic Health Authorities are trying to improve the quality of care they can offer to patients in their communities, it has been claimed.

Chief nursing officer Christine Beasley made this comment after the Department of Health announced winners of a £1.5 million award to help them follow projects that will help services in the local area.

Nurses and health professionals were encouraged to make decisions on how services could be improved in the future and the money will go towards developing provisions such as bilingual stroke rehabilitation programmes and nutrition training.

Ms Beasley noted the winners show how medical professionals are giving people a greater say, choice and control of their own healthcare.

“The breadth of services that have won these awards demonstrates the essential contribution that clinicians working in the community make to improving health and wellbeing,” she said.

The Department of Health announced yesterday (April 30th) that additional nurses were being placed at Stafford Hospital to improve patient care.
