Lilly given award for health information

Lilly has been given an award for its services to the healthcare industry.

The 2009 Best Practices in Healthcare Consumer Empowerment and Protection Awards named the company as the winner of the bronze award for Health Information and Decision Support.

It was given the nod by non-profit independent organisation Urac, which said Lilly is one of the companies that has “made a difference” to consumers “by implementing leading-edge programs with results that matter”.

The news follows a recent announcement regarding trials of once-daily erectile dysfunction treatment Tadalafil.

Lilly said its double-blind placebo-controlled study was generally well-tolerated among patients, with side-effects including nasal congestion, headache and dyspepsia.

According to the company, Tadalafil 5 mg “significantly improved” the condition, with 46 per cent of males in the drug-testing segment of subject reporting increased ability for successful intercourse.

Lilly was founded in 1876 and is now the world’s tenth largest pharmaceutical company. It employs about 143,000 people.
