Trust helps give pregnant women information

Women who have recently found out they are pregnant need as much help and support as possible, it has been claimed.

The Somerset Primary Care Trust is reminding females of the services it can offer.

If someone suspects they are carrying a baby, the midwives at the facility can meet with them, discuss their medical history, check if there have been any previous pregnancy complications, take blood pressure and ensure a healthy diet is being followed.

Lucy Watson is the deputy director of nursing and patient safety. She remarked community midwives are a great source of information, advising women to visit one early on in a pregnancy.

“They are aware of the issues and anxieties that mums-to-be experience through the various stages of their pregnancy and know exactly how to help the baby develop normally and go on to have a safe delivery,” Ms Watson commented.

National Breastfeeding Awareness Week was held last week (May 10th to 16th) and new mothers in the West Midlands were encouraged to find out more about the topic.

Parents were able to talk to healthcare professionals at a number of events to get advice and information.
