Pfizer Animal Health discusses benefits of Improvac

Pfizer Animal Health’s Improvac provides many benefits for male pigs, it has stated.

The innovative swine vaccine means the creatures can be raised to the same weight using less feed, while reducing undesirable behaviour in adolescents and virtually eliminating the risk of tainted meat.

Approved in 42 countries worldwide, the European Commission has now granted the company permission to market the product across the EU, which is one of the world’s largest pork-producing markets.

The vaccine is a suitable solution to consumers’ demand for animal welfare, safety and taste, the company asserted.

“It represents an efficient and animal-friendly alternative to physical castration – proven to make no compromise on meat quality,” it said.

When the pig is eight weeks of age, it can be given the first two millilitre dose, with the second measurement administered between four and six weeks before slaughter.

Pfizer Animal Health offers a broad range of products to pork producers for their livestock, including vaccines and antibiotics, to help them stay healthy, resulting in a more profitable operation.
