Prosurgics’ FreeHand featured on BBC TV
Prosurgics’ FreeHand laparoscopic camera controller has been “prominently” featured on BBC television in recent days, the company has noted.
The robotic medical device was mentioned by Nazeer Dahar, consultant urological surgeon at Lincoln County Hospital, who noted that his patients have benefitted from the recent introduction of keyhole surgery to help people with prostate cancer.
According to the company, FreeHand has been purchased by the medical facility as an “integral part” of the new therapeutic service.
In a news piece on regional news programme Look North, Mr Dahar explained that the benefits of the new programme include reduced time in hospital for patients, meaning that the overall operation of the unit is now more efficient.
“The introduction of laparoscopic surgery using FreeHand has reduced typical patient stays from 5 days to 24 hours and total recovery from 6 weeks down to 14 days,” Prosurgics notes.
Lincoln County Hospital is covered by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
