Abbott-sponsored programme announces winner

24th July 2009

Abbott-sponsored programme Labs Are Vital, which is a worldwide education initiative that aims to increase awareness about clinical laboratory sciences and the career opportunities that the field offers, has announced the winner of a competition aimed at schools students.

Kelly Peterson has been selected as the winner, after submitting a video about why careers in clinical lab sciences are important.

Runner-up positions were taken by Megan Dougherty and a biology class at East Oktibbeha County High School.

Denise Brunner, Abbott’s Labs Are Vital programme manager, said that the contest helps to show those in the industry that students of school age are starting to grasp how important careers in clinical laboratory services are.

“We hope many will answer the call and help alleviate the global shortage of qualified laboratory scientists and technicians,” she added.

Abbot sponsors the Labs Are Vital initiative in partnership with the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, which can trace its history back to 1952.
