The Department of Heath’s (DoH) Stop Smoking Service is set to visit Newcastle-under-Lyme this weekend, in a bid to support locals in their smoking cessation efforts.
Entitled Dodgy Cigs, the project also focuses on informing people of the hazards associated with buying cut-price cigarettes and tobacco products from unauthorised sources.
Coming to the Midsummer Mayhem event at Lyme Valley Park on Sunday August 9th, the drive is part of a wider initiative involving radio and poster campaigns.
The Dodgy Cigs campaign is run jointly by the DoH and HM Revenue & Customs.
“If people are looking to save money it’s better that people explore the help available to stop smoking altogether rather than seek out cheaper alternatives to shop-bought tobacco,” commented Paul Hooper, regional tobacco policy manager for the West Midlands.
Earlier this month, the DoH launched a consultation on the potential regulation of the alternative medicines sector – news that may affect those offering herbal remedies, Chinese medicines and acupuncture in the UK.
