Sandoz launches tacrolimus capsules

11th August 2009

Sandoz has announced that the first-ever generic version of its Prograf capsules has been released for patient use.

Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive treatment that is used on transplant patients to reduce the risk of their bodies rejecting the new organs.

Jeff George, the chief executive of Sandoz, said that tacrolimus is an “important” new product and will help to strengthen the company’s portfolio of affordable medicines.

He continued: “Sandoz and our parent company Novartis have deep experience in the transplant field and we are deeply committed to providing more cost-saving treatment options for this community in the future.”

Last month, a report authored by Professor Ulrich Blum, president of the Halle Institure for Economic Research, concluded that Sandoz’s global headquarters, which is located in Holzkirchen, is one of the drivers of economic growth in both Bavaria and Germany.
