United Drug enters venture with Medco Health Solutions

United Drug is to enter into a joint venture with Medco Healthcare Solutions to provide home-based pharmacy care to NHS patients in the UK, it has announced.

The initiative will operate as Medco Health Solutions and aims to offer those treated by the NHS a plethora of homecare options. These include prescriptive drug dispensing and home delivery services, on-site nursing and case management.

Both firms will work with the NHS to ensure they meet guidelines and provide high-quality care while helping the service to cut its costs.

"Homecare pharmacy services have a proven track record for delivering quality, choice and convenience – providing an exceptional patient experience that it also financially responsible," explained president of new markets for Medco Health Solutions John Driscoll.

United Drug has operations in the UK, Ireland, Holland, Belgium and the US and operates across healthcare supply chains, packaging and specialty services and contract sales and marketing.
