Ceva Animal Health requests assistance from horse owners

Ceva Animal Health is asking individuals who own horses in the UK to participate in an online survey in a bid to find out more information about stereotypical equine behaviour.

In a bid to discover more about habits such as weaving, box walking and crib biting, Ceva is collaborating with the University of Nottingham’s Veterinary School to invite horse owners to fill in a questionnaire about their management and caring habits.

The firm plans to use the information to assist with the development of an equine pheromone designed to manage stereotypical equine behavioral problems.

Liz Mossop from Nottingham Vet School stated: “Pheromones have been shown to be very effective in supporting behaviour management of dogs and cats and we hope that an equine pheromone would prove equally useful.”

In July, Ceva announced that its dog-appeasing pheromone collars would be distributed among canines taken in by Dogs Trust shelters.
