PerkinElmer acquires prenatal and newborn screening lab

PerkinElmer has revealed that it has acquired a new laboratory designed specifically for prenatal and newborn screenings.

The company – which specialises in human and environmental health – is the new owner of Surendra Genetic Labs and will use the resource to expand its presence in the field of maternal, fetal and newborn health.

Founder of the lab, Dr S Suresh, is an ultrasonologist and fetal medicine expert.

President of genetic screening at PerkinElmer Ann-Christine Sundell said this move is key for the firm as it will allow it to fulfil its commitment to "facilitate access to advanced fetal, maternal and child health screening".

She added: "This will enable PerkinElmer to extend our offerings to ensure better health outcomes in pregnancy and of newborns, as well as introduce new technologies."

In other PerkinElmer news, the organisation released a new test-measure kit on to the market last week, which is designed for the diagnosis of hormone and endocrine disorders.
