Sanofi Aventis division ‘to provide H1N1 vaccine’

Sanofi Aventis division Sanofi Pasteur will work with the Butantan Institute to provide a H1N1 influenza vaccine to the Brazilian government, it has been announced.

Collaborating to deliver the product to the South American country, the firms will provide an initial supply of 18 million doses, a further one million doses in final presentation and 17 million doses in bulk form.

The agreement also encompasses the delivery of an extra 15 million doses, depending upon the recommendations of the World Health Organisation.

“We rely on our close collaboration […] to produce and deliver the vaccine that will most effectively help respond to the public health threat caused by pandemic and seasonal influenza in Brazil,” said Wayne Pisano, president and chief executive officer of Sanofi Pasteur.

In other Sanofi-Aventis news, the firm announced last week that a trial surrounding the anti-Xa intravenous coagulant otamixaban showed that the drug reduced the likelihood death, urgent revascularisation and myocardial infarcaton in non-ST ACS patients.
