Roche highlights Tamiflu study results

Roche has pointed out the results of recent research carried out into the administration of Tamiflu in those who have contracted H1N1 virus.

Undertaken by the Avex Avian Influenza Expert Group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the study, supported by Roche, examined 215 patients across ten countries and found that H1N1 has an 88 per cent mortality rate.

It also discovered that only 11 out of 89 patients not treated with Tamiflu died, while 45 out of 85 people who received at least one does of the drug survived.

Jean-Jacques Garaud, global head of pharmaceutical development at Roche, said: "In two different observational studies, the data continues to indicate that there is clinical benefit provided by Tamiflu, including improving survival in patients with H1N1 infection or seasonal influenza."

This news comes after Roche revealed last week that its cobas 8000 modular analyser series has been granted CE mark certification.
