PerkinElmer awarded engineering contract
PerkinElmer has been assigned a contract by the ITT Corporation Space Systems Division to design and implement engineering advances within its heritage GPS Block IIR and Block IIF RAFS systems.
The deal, which is worth more than $15 million (nine million pounds) will also see PerkinElmer deliver flight units for the first two satellite vehicles by March 2012, with a projected launch date of 2014, the firm revealed.
Furthermore, the agreement features the option to include up to ten additional satellites.
Joel Falcone, vice-president and general manager for PerkinElmer’s illumination business, said that the firm is "pleased that the benefits of its innovative RAFS technology, excellent product performance and long-standing reliability for GPS satellites, continue to be recognised and rewarded by our customers".
In other PerkinElmer news, the organisation revealed last week that it has acquired Surendra Genetic Labs – a facility designed specifically for prenatal and newborn screenings.
