Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica to acquire Fort Dodge Animal Health assets
Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica has announced a deal that will see it acquire certain assets of Wyeth’s Fort Dodge Animal Health from Pfizer after the completion of the Pfizer-Wyeth merger.
Subject to anti-trust clearance, the agreement will “significantly” increase the size of Boehringer Ingelheim’s cattle and animal portfolios.
The deal would see Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica obtain a significant portion of the Fort Dodge Animal Health product portfolio in a number of countries.
Hubertus von Baumbach, member of the board of managing directors of Boehringer Ingelheim responsible for finance and animal health, said that Fort Dodge Animal Health is a “global industry leader” that would be an “excellent” fit with the company’s existing product lines.
“This acquisition gives us further opportunity to focus on the development of innovative animal health products through internal research and external collaboration,” he added.
Pfizer and Wyeth state that the merger between the two firms will create the globe’s premier biopharmaceutical company.
