BMJ Group issues swine flu podcast
BMJ Group has produced a podcast containing updated information on swine flu vaccination for healthcare staff.
Available through BMJ Learning, which is the medical education arm of BMJ Group, the 30-minute podcast gives advice on where to inject the swine flu vaccine and how it should be stored.
It also covers various safety issues and features a panel of experts answering questions about swine flu vaccination from doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
The panel includes the Department of Health’s national director for pandemic flu preparedness Professor Lyndsey Davies and Professor Vivienne Nathanson, director of professional activities at the British Medical Association.
According to the Guardian, the Department of Health is concerned that many NHS workers intend to avoid the swine flu vaccine, which is entirely voluntary at the moment.
The newspaper reported that hospital chief executives expect between ten and 20 per cent of their staff to get vaccinated.
Two men from Scotland died last week after contracting swine flu, bringing the total number of deaths in the UK up to 92.
