Ipsen grants Adenuric rights to Menarini

Ipsen has granted fellow pharmaceutical firm Menarini the licence rights for its novel treatment for chronic hyperuricaemia in gout Adenuric (febuxostat).

The agreement covers a total of 41 countries and Ipsen will retain the co-promotion rights for the product in France.

Marketing authorisation for Adenuric was granted in the European Union on 21st April 2008 and tablet doses of 80 mg and 120 mg are indicated for the treatment of chronic hyperuricaemia for conditions in which urate deposition has already occurred.

Ipsen was first given permission to market Adenuric in Europe in 2003 by Teijin Pharma Limited.

“We are proud to bring to the medical community the first treatment alternative in decades in the treatment of hyperuricaemia in gout,” stated Jean-Luc Belingard, chairman and chief executive officer of Ipsen.

Earlier this month, Ipsen also gained the rights to market the drug BLI-800 – a treatment designed for colonic cleansing before colonoscopy – from Braintree.
