Abbott announces water savings of 1bn gallons
Abbott has announced that it has been focusing on its environmental responsibilities and has managed to save one billion gallons of water every year.
This is since 2004, when the firm launched its global initiative to better preserve natural resources through reducing the amount of water it uses in the manufacture of its healthcare and nutrition products.
It originally set out to achieve water reduction correlating to 2004 levels by 2011.
Now, the firm has almost achieved a 40 per cent saving in its water use two years ahead of schedule, decreasing its reliance upon the resource by 37 per cent.
Corlis Murray, vice-president of global engineering services at Abbott, explained: “Water is essential to our ability to provide our customers with the health care products from Abbott they depend on, but the quality of water we return to the environment is also important.”
In other Abbott news, the company launched ZonePerfect Indulgence Nutrition Squares last month – a wellbeing product in the form of a dessert.
