Abbott products receive further CE markings in Europe
Abbott has announced that two of its products ? the XIENCE PRIME Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System and the XIENCE V Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System – have received the CE mark in Europe, granting them endorsement for use in patients with diabetes.
The firm pointed out that this could be a positive development for those living in the European Union member states with coronary heart disease and diabetes.
As well as diabetes, XIENCE PRIME and XIENCE V also received the CE mark for expanded indications to treat patients that have complex disease, including dual vessels, small vessels and jailed side branches.
Charles Simonton, divisional vice-president of medical affairs and chief medical officer with Abbott, commented that patients with diabetes have more of a “challenging” anatomy to work on, tending to have smaller vessels or longer lesions.
“The deliverability of both devices provides physicians with confidence to easily reach the lesion site,” he added.
Another Abbott product to have received the CE mark in the EU within the last month is the firm’s acute kidney injury test, which helps to detect the condition in patients earlier rather than later.
