Bristol Myers Squibb announces label update for Reyataz

9th November 2009

Bristol Myers Squibb has announced that its HIV-1 treatment Reyataz has been granted a label update by the Food and Drug Administration.

The adjustments have been made to incorporate the outcome of a study entitled CASTLE, which found that patients displayed an enduring virologic response through 96 weeks of treatment with Reyataz as compared to a twice-daily lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV)-based regimen.

In the CASTLE trial, a majority of patients on the Reyataz regimen achieved undetectable viral load, confirming efficacy during the timeframe.

Overall, 74 per cent of 223 candidates in the once-daily Reyataz group achieved undetectable viral load at 96 weeks as opposed to 67 per cent of 222 patients in the twice-daily LPV arm.

Last month, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Exelixis announced that a study into XL184 – a treatment for glioblastoma multiforme, the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer – had a positive outcome.
