Amgen wins Best Pipeline and Best New Drug awards

Amgen revealed this week that it has been given two Scrip Awards this year.

The firm won the accolades Best Pipeline and Best New Drug for its therapy Nplate (romiplostim) at the ceremony, which was held in London on November 18th 2009.

Nplate, which is intended for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura, was chosen for its focus on an unmet medical need.

The firm’s pipeline was singled out for its market potential, size, quality and range of candidates across various stages of development.

Roger Perlmutter, executive vice-president of research and development at Amgen, commented: “Over the past decade, we have worked very hard to develop a robust pipeline that focuses on novel therapeutics to treat serious illnesses.”

Earlier this month, Amgen revealed that its metastatic colorectal cancer treatment Vectibix (panitumumab) yielded a positive outcome during a clinical trial.
