Colgate junior dental award given to Newcastle student

Colgate’s junior dental award, which recognises the efforts of those who show outstanding abilities in the field, has been awarded to a student from Newcastle.

The Junior Colgate Prize was bestowed upon Rhiannon Davies at a British Society for Dental Research (BSDR) ceremony in Glasgow, in recognition of her achievements and performance as a student of dentistry.

A paper Ms Davies wrote for her master’s degree – entitled Do patients with aggressive periodontitis have subclinical diabetes? ? was praised during the ceremony and also earned her a distinction.

She won a cash prize of £3,000 to fund her undergraduate research and has now been chosen to compete for the Junior Hatton Prize as the BSDR’s representative in July 2010.

Meanwhile, last month Colgate posted its financial results for the third quarter of 2009, which showed that its net income for the period reached $590 million (359.8 million pounds), while its diluted earnings per share amounted to $1.12.
