Roche introduces new cobas 4800 lab testing system

Roche has introduced its new system – the cobas 4800 – for the CE-marked testing for Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) and human papillomavirus (HPV).

The equipment boasts fully-automated sample preparation and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology and is designed to detect the 14 HPV high-risk genotypes widely accepted to cause cervical cancer, as well as bacterial DNA associated with CT and NG infections.

It offers laboratories the opportunity to improve their workflow and provides information that physicians can act upon quickly.

The cobas 4800 System is now available in countries that accept the CE-Mark.

Daniel O’Day, head of Roche Molecular Diagnostics, stated: “This new system also sets the stage for the delivery of additional diagnostic tests in both microbiology and oncology.”

In September, Roche announced that its cobas 8000 modular analyser series was granted CE-mark certification.

This granted it permission to commercially distribute the relevant products in Europe and other regions that recognise the standard.
