Ferring unveils positive trial outcome for FIRMAGON

Ferring has announced the positive outcome of a clinical study into its prostate cancer treatment FIRMAGON (degarelix).

The results showed that those patients receiving FIRMAGON have a significantly lower chance of prostate-specific-antigen (PSA) recurrence compared with those taking existing treatment leuprolide.

Furthermore, an analysis which was published in the British Journal of Urology suggested that FIRMAGON offers better control of serum alkaline phosphatase than leuprolide.

FIRMAGON is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist approved in the EU and the US.

Professor Bertrand Tombal, chairman of urology at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, commented: “These data add to the evidence demonstrating that FIRMAGON offers an important treatment choice for men with prostate cancer.”
