Burson-Marsteller appoints Conservative minister

Burson-Marsteller has appointed Conservative Party minister Andrew MacKay to a consultation and advisory role at the company.

Mr MacKay is to take up his new role at the public relations firm following the dissolution of parliament at the upcoming election, at which point he will stand down as an MP.

The company expressed confidence that the former Conservative deputy chairman’s extensive international business experience will serve him well in his new position.

Matt Carter, chief executive officer (CEO) of Burson-Marsteller, also suggested that the increasingly large cross-party political experience will make the firm better placed to advise its clients after the election.

He added: “He will bring a great deal of experience and knowledge of the challenges businesses face both at home and across the world.”

Mr Carter, who became CEO of the company last month, also has extensive political experience, having formerly served as the general secretary of the Labour Party.
