Roche Diagnostics launches new blood glucose monitoring system

Roche Diagnostics has released a new blood glucose monitoring system in the UK which allows for testing without the need for strips.

The Accu-Check Mobile device is aimed at diabetes sufferers on tight schedules in order to provide a more convenient means of self monitoring of blood glucose.

It is based on a four-step process and eliminates the need for handling single test strips and single lancets, factors which can often prove a barrier to many consumers.

The firm claims that its device is the first of its kind to be released anywhere in the world, suggesting it will represent a “groundbreaking innovation” in diabetes treatment.

Brett Lewis, director of diabetes care at Roche, said: “Accu-Chek Mobile’s comprehensive features with five-second test time, only 0.3 microlitres blood volume and most importantly the strip-free mode of operation make it a clear step change in diabetes care.”

In December 2009, the company launched the cobas 4800, a new high-speed instrument designed to test for sexually-transmitted diseases.
