Almirall to collaborate on new pain medications

Almirall is to be a part of a new research collaboration into the development of new medical treatments for sufferers of osteoarthritis-induced pain.

The company is allying with fellow healthcare firms Esteve, Palau Pharma and Proteomika as part of a joint venture called Neogenius, with a budget of 15.4 million euros (13.6 million pounds) having been allocated.

This venture will be split into two sub-projects, with one focusing on the development of pharmaceutical treatments for the condition, while the other centres on identifying biomarkers and diagnostic indicators.

A number of small and medium-sized enterprises and public research organisations will also work together with the pharmaceuticals firms on this project.

Research into this initiative will be ongoing for the next four years.

Earlier this month, Almirall announced that it has received European regulatory approval for the sale of Silodosin, a new capsule-based treatment designed for those affected by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
