Medtronic hailed for leadership in innovation

Medtronic has won recognition from an industry publication for its innovations in the field of brain treatment technology.

The medical device company has been named as one of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Technology Review journal’s 50 most innovative companies, thanks to the work it has done on its Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy.

This technique has been developed for more than 15 years and functions by delivering electronic pulses to the brain in order to treat neurological conditions.

Don Deyo, vice president of product development and technology in Medtronic’s neuromodulation business, expressed honour at being recognised for the technology.

He added: “In collaboration with leading physicians, we pioneered DBS therapy and we have remained focused on advancing the technology for the benefit of patients worldwide.”

Last month, the company published its financial breakdown for the fiscal quarter ending January 29th 2010, reporting a year-on-year revenue increase of ten per cent.
