Pfizer Animal Health licences vaccine platform for new drug

Pfizer Animal Health has licensed a vaccine enhancement and delivery platform for the development of a new livestock treatment.

The veterinary pharmaceutical company has agreed a deal with Immunovaccine to use its patented platform, which utilises liposomes in an oil depot to introduce antigens and adjuvants to the immune system in a long-lasting way.

It has already demonstrated its efficacy in preclinical trials, which show that resulting vaccines can achieve greater potency in a single dose.

This is the third vaccine for which Pfizer has utilised this technology, with Immunovaccine set to receive milestone payments dependent on its success.

Dr Randal Chase, president and chief executive officer of Immunovaccine, said: “We are pleased that Pfizer Animal Health will now be integrating our technology into a third vaccine product.”

Last month, Pfizer Animal Health received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for Excede Sterile Suspension, its new antibiotic for horses.
