Sigma-Aldrich expands antibody portfolio with new Atlas deal

29th March 2010

Sigma-Aldrich has added an additional 2,200 antibodies to its portfolio as part of the latest phase of its partnership with Atlas Antibodies.

This expansion represents the fourth wave of antibodies to be delivered to the company’s life science division by Atlas since February 2008, taking its total Prestige Antibody offering to 8,300.

Both firms will collaborate on the distribution of the products in Europe, with Sigma-Aldrich handling distribution exclusively in other regions.

Sigma-Aldrich states that this ongoing partnership is helping to contribute to the Human Protein Atlas programme, with the Prestige Antibody range now offering coverage for 6,900 human protein targets thus far.

Dr David Smoller, president of the firm’s Research Biotech business unit, said: “Extending our offering of high-quality, highly validated Prestige Antibodies further enables proteomics and cell biology researchers worldwide to understand biology and the study of disease.”

This comes after Sigma-Aldrich earlier this month agreed a deal to make around 100 Pfizer-developed small molecule compounds with healthcare applications available to life science researchers.
