Boehringer Ingelheim and Sigma-Aldrich agree distribution deal

Boehringer Ingelheim and Sigma-Aldrich have agreed a deal which will see the life science company distribute Boehringer Ingelheim-developed biomaterials.

The healthcare firm will be offering its portfolio of Resomer biodegradable polylactide and polylactide-co-glycolide polymers to the research community via Simga-Aldrich’s sales channels.

These materials are used in the development of surgical sutures and resorbable implants, with potential future uses in delivery applications and drug encapsulation.

Dr Ilya Koltover, market segment manager for Aldrich Materials Science, said the materials represent a “fundamental” technology for future research into biomaterials.

He added: “Through our agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim, we can ensure scientists around the globe a reliable, seamless supply of these high-quality materials – to support all phases of drug discovery and development.”

This comes after Boehringer Ingelheim last month launched a new corporate venture capital fund in order to support biotech and start-up life science research companies across the globe.
