Siemens launches new assay for EPO analysis

13th May 2010

Siemens has released a new version of its Immulite erythropoietin (EPO) assay which allows blood samples to be analysed in a more precise and effective way.

The newest version of the Siemens product is a solid-phase, two-site monoclonal/monoclonal sandwich chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay which works with all Immulite Systems Analysers.

In a test comparing the device against six alternative products, the new assay was shown to be a top-ranking performer on many criteria, such as shortest incubation time and greatest calibrator range.

Siemens states that this emphasises its value in the analysis of the hormone EPO, which regulates red blood production and plays a vital role in diagnosing conditions such as anaemia and polycythaemia.

It added that the functionality benefits of the new Immulite device means that it can also be used to predict and monitor anaemia sufferers’ response to recombinant EPO treatment.

Earlier this month, the science company also launched the Versant CT/GC DNA 1.0 kPCR assay, which allows clinicians to test for sexually-transmitted infections in a non-invasive way.
