Siemens Healthcare adds syphilis test to Immulite system

21st May 2010

Siemens Healthcare has announced a new addition to the infectious disease test menu offered by its Immulite 2000 immunoassay system.

The company’s syphilis screen test has received 510(k) approval, joining the existing tests for hepatitis, HIV and prenatal infectious disease on the Immulite system for clinical laboratories.

According to Siemens, consolidating routine immunoassay testing on a single laboratory system will help technicians to save time and improve turnaround times for test results.

“This is one more way Siemens is delivering on our commitment to advance infectious disease testing for our customers,” commented Dave Hickey, executive vice-president for central laboratory and global research and development at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.

He said the consolidated testing apparatus should “improve operational efficiency” while enhancing the quality of clinical results and boosting patient care standards.

Last month, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics extended its ADVIA Chemistry Drugs of Abuse portfolio with the introduction of a new Ecstasy assay.
