Pfizer reports long-term benefits of Caduet

23rd June 2010

Pfizer has reported data from a new study which illustrates the long-term health benefits of Caduet, its treatment for coronary heart disease and fatal cardiovascular disease.

According to information from the Crucial clinical trial presented at the European Society of Hypertension scientific meeting, use of the drug has been associated with a reduced ten-year risk of heart disease.

This conclusion was drawn following analysis using the Framingham risk assessment model, which takes into account factors such as gender, age, blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Professor Jose Zamorano, chair of the Crucial steering committee, said the findings show Caduet’s potential benefits for those with high cholesterol and blood pressure, which are the most common modifiable risk factors contributing to heart disease.

Earlier this month, Pfizer highlighted data from a new study published in the Lancet medical journal, which shows the efficacy of its drug Celebrex in preventing gastrointestinal events among arthritis patients.
